FUNGIA(MUSHROOM CORAL) = COMMENTS, HABIT AND HABITAT, CLASSIFICATION, DIAGRAM, CHARACTERISTICS
Fungia
Habit and Habitat- Fungia are found on rubble or soft bottom area that are protected from strong water movement.
Distribution- Fungia are found growing on reefs in the Indo-pacific region.
Characteristics
- Fungia are generally solitary, some attaining 30cm in diameter.
- They are found in various bright colourless including white,pink, red, purple, blue Nd yellow and are popular with keepers of reef aquariums.
- The discs are either round or oval and central mouth, which is surrounded by tentacles, maybe a slit.
- The polyp sits in a calcareous cup, called the corallite.
- Feeding tentacles are visible at night.
- Fungia also reproduce asexually.
- Daughter colonies/ polyps may form and they will form off springs from broken pieces, they show regeneration.
