EVOLUTION:
Evolution of aerobics:-
- The concept of aerobics stems or evolves from a book published "Aerobics" in 1968 and "The aerobics way" in 1977, written by Dr. Kenneth Cooper, an English physiologist of the United States Air Force.
- Dr. Cooper explained that Aerobic exercise helps to prevent disease and in order to live a healthy life you must exercise regularly.
- After publishing of Cooper's book with respect to the exercise system. In aerobics in 1968, a person called Jacky Sorenson developed a series of dance routines known as the aerobic dance to generously improve the cardiovascular fitness.
- So, aerobic dance and other forms of exercise gain existence and made their way prudently between the masses all over the United States and many other countries, and that too in a very short span of around two decades.
- The number of aerobic participators in the US alone raises from an estimated 6 million in 1978 to 19 million in 1987.
- Cooper's system uses point charts to rate the aerobic value of various exercises for different age groups. As individuals progressively upgrade the quantity and quality of their exercise, they can gauge the improvement in their physical condition through the point system.
- In the 1980s aerobics was popularized by Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons through workout videotapes and instructional programs.
- Sometimes called group fitness, aerobics is most often practiced in health and fitness clubs where the lead of an instructor whose movements are synchronized to up-tempo popular music.
- In the year of 1983 Howard and Karen Schwartz developed a very new and competitive sport called sport-aerobics. In the year 1984, their group organization known as the sports fitness International has the credit of organizing the first national aerobic championship.
- Sports-aerobics at the beginning, started featuring competition in four categories namely individual male and female common, mixed pairs, and trio which have the facility to include any of the three athletes.
- In the year 2002 the competition was improved to a group of 6 athletes. The verdict towards the competitors is alone on a one minute, forty-five seconds routine done to music. judges elect two criteria namely the artistic merit and the technical merit with an overall 10 points each.
- In 1996 sport-aerobics was officially adopted as a Gymnastic discipline.
